Mechanical Engineers | Full Time

Niagara Transformer LLC, Buffalo, NY seeks Mechanical Engineers –

• Interpreting industry standards governing product designs and applying to the manufacture of transformers and switchgear for Power Transformer design, including internal and external components.
• Developing and designing accurate prints and mechanical documentation for manufacturing and assembly of customized transformers.
• Generating and/or coordinating Bills of Material for all materials and accessories necessary for a transformer design using MRP software for bill of material creation, material descriptions and allocations.
• Reviewing and checking designs and outlines produced by peers, including nameplates and simple schematics for conformance to customer and industry specifications and standards c. ensuring ANSI, IEEE and CSA as well as IEEE C.57 series standards are met regarding mechanical design of power transformers, specifically C57.12.00 and C57.12.10.
• Utilizing appropriate computer programs to analyze design data. Producing outlines, design concepts and accurate detailed design drawings using CAD systems including AutoCAD and Inventor 3D.
• Developing engineering, material and shop standards.
• Revising design practices to prevent recurrent problems and investigating shop problems to recommend solutions.
• Collaborating with the Engineering Manager, Project Managers and other designers to provide cost-effective, technically sufficient and timely designs.
• Preparing technical drawings, specifications, documents, instructions and reports.
• Supporting continuous improvement of the design process using tools such as CAD systems and design software.
• Providing input for strategy development projects to improve transformer design, application and manufacturing processes.
• Executing mechanical component design, steel frame structure design, analysis and evaluation to adhere to business standards, practices and procedures.
• Reviewing and performing linear structural stress analysis and specifying materials and finite element analysis (FEA) boundary conditions utilizing Autodesk Nastran Finite Element Analysis software.
• Participating in the implementation of New Product Introductions Design and performing validating/testing activities for product release.
• Lead or participate in internal design reviews of new products or features.
• Addressing shop floor and field quality issues and taking necessary design measures to enhance product quality and/or reduce manufacturing and material cost.

Requires

• Bachelor’s (or foreign educ. equiv.) Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
• and two (2) yrs. experience in Job Offered or related.

Experience must have included at least 2 yrs. in each of the following:

• Use of Autodesk products, AutoCAD and Inventor 3D;
• Power Transformer design, including internal and external components;
• Use of applicable codes and standards including ANSI, IEEE and CSA as well as IEEE C.57 series standards regarding mechanical design of power transformers, specifically C57.12.00 and C57.12.10;
• Use of Autodesk Nastran Finite Element Analysis software;
• Review and checking designs and outlines produced by other designers;
• Direct manufacturing shop support and interaction experience dealing with engineering issues and support shop, field with any engineering related issues;
• Development of engineering, material and shop standards;
• Generate product and drawing bill of materials; and Use of MRP software for bill of material creation, material descriptions and allocations.
